The passion and commitment of everyone involved in organizing CRIMUN is crucial. Young students dedicate their time, energy and ideas for making this an unforgettable experience. Their presence is reflected in the work of every committee, workshop, and document.

Three CRIMUN staff members were interviewed: Montserrat Umaña, Jimmyr Centeno y Mariana Guevara shared their vision of CRIMUN with us.

Montserrat Umaña began as a delegate in CRIMUN two years ago. Today, she takes is the Chair of the United Nations Human Rights Council. This role involves creating multiple scenarios, guiding the debate, and writing key documents to help delegates on the day of the event. She mentions that being part of the staff has taught her leadership, prioritization and effective communication with different people.

Among the many things she has learned, she highlights the development of skills such as teamwork, time management and empathy. Umaña mentioned: “A key part is understanding the each person’s work rhythm and finding ways to collaborate respectfully”. CRIMUN has challenged her to grow not just as a part of the organizational team, but also as a purposeful leader.

Jimmyr Centeno has been collaborating in the area of Outreach, focusing on delegate capacity building and promoting an inclusive network. Talking from his experience, he says that CRIMUN taught him how to work with people of different ages, understand different ideas and strengthen soft skills such as active listening and respect for other perspectives. One of the biggest challenges for Centeno has been working virtually. “It limits human interaction, but we have created long-term dynamics to maintain the team’s spirit”, he said. Activities such as team-building sessions are key to maintaining staff cohesion and enthusiasm.

Mariana Guevara, from Mexico, took the challenge of joining the Academics and Translation team. Her participation is a result of CRIMUN’s growth. Initially, working in a remotely with video conferences was difficult, but today, efficient management and planning are highlighted as important

For all three of them, CRIMUN is more than just a debate event. It is a space where you can grow, gain new perspectives and connect with many young people who share your ideas and dreams

As Umaña said: “CRIMUN creates open-minded leaders, and that is exactly the heart of the organization”.
